Few realize that until a couple of centuries ago, astrology was considered a science and a medical doctor was also a student and practitioner of the discipline. Nostradamus used the study in his work as a physician and to synchronize his predictions of the future. These ancient physicians discovered that each planet controlled the health of certain parts of the body and believed that herbs and elixirs were more potent when gathered, processed or used during specific phases of the moon.

Sir Isaac Newton was a proficient astrologer and when asked why he approached the subject with such conviction, he stated, "I do not believe in a universe of accidents." Others that adhered to the study include Copernicus, Dante, Chaucer,  Kepler, Plato, Bacon and Shakespeare. William the Conqueror, Charlemagne and the Crusades acted in accordance with the stars. Wars began, peace treaties were signed, emperors were crowned and couples were married based on astrological influence.

Hitler employed a battery of astrologers to assist in the management of World War II. His campaigns were based on their horoscopes for success. Churchill and Roosevelt hired their own top secret astrologer. His purpose was to determine what Hitler's astrologers were telling the Nazis and to relay all information to the leaders of the free world. This provided the US and UK strategists a greater understanding of Hitler's battle plans.

All great civilizations in our past have demonstrated a working knowledge of this science of the stars. In Mesopotamia archeologists uncovered clay tablets depicting astrological events that were recorded over five thousand years ago. Many of the earliest surviving structures such as Cheops and Teotihuacan indicate special alignments with stars and planets. Mathematicians of antiquity constructed huge observation platforms that allowed them to better understand the firmament. From their calculations they predicted floods, droughts, eclipses and even determined irregular paths of major planets. Assyrian priests were responsible for dividing the zodiac into twelve signs which we continue to use today.

The benefits of astrology will long be debated. Each individual has to reach their own conclusion based on personal experience.

Signs and Interpretations

Each of us is born under one of these signs and each sign has its own element. Empedocles taught that the original four Greek elements of nature (Earth, Air, Water and Fire) melded together in different proportions by tendencies of attraction and repulsion. Like the magnetic poles of north and south, certain signs have a harmony with others. Fire and Air attract each other, but Fire and Water repel each other.
